DX program 

This is Radio Bulgaria’s weekly DX Program for radio amateurs and short wave fans and DXers which is included in our one-hour broadcasts starting as follows: Friday at 22.00 UTC on 6200 and 7400 kHz beamed to West Europe, Saturday at 00.00 and at 03.00 UTC on 5900 and 7400 kHz to North America, as well as in the half-hour broadcasts on Sunday at 07.30 UTC also on 5900 and 7400 kHz.

The CW Operators Club Formed

The CW Operators Club was formed on December 9, 2009 by an international group of ham radio enthusiasts and will be registered in the State of Virginia, USA as an incorporated entity.

The goals of the new CW club are:

  Encourage CW activity on the HF bands.

  Mentor hams in acquiring CW skills.

  Promote amateur radio and general technical education, particularly among youth.

  Sponsor awards for CW competitions.

  Support organizations that promote CW.

  Create an environment of on-the-air camaraderie.

  Organize periodic in-person social events for members and their partners.

Among the Charter members are N3JT, G2JL, DL1XX, G3XSN, I8NHJ, K2VCO, K5MA, K6RB, N1DG, N6XT, OH2BH, ON4UN, W1WEF, W1EBI, RA3CQ, W1RM, W3UR, YO4PX, LZ1AF, ZL1AH, ZS1EL and many other outstanding hams.

Climate Summit Conference in Copenhagen celebrated on the air by OZ5BAL.

Special Event Station OZ5BAL celebrating the Climate Summit Conference in Copenhagen on the ham bands December 7 -18 is manned by OZ5BAL, the local club station of Ballerup in NW Copenhagen. The station is running off “clearer” energy sources, i.e. solar and wind power to show some alternatives to the normal grid as in spirit of climate summit. QSL via bureau.

YI9PSE Kurdistan/Iraq DXpedition.

Six US and a Japanese hams will stage a DXpedition to Kurdistan/Iraq in the spring of 2010 with at least 3 stations at the same time in different bands and modes 10 through 160 meters, CW, SSB and RTTY. Scott Robbins, W4PA, to Purchase Vibroplex.

Scott Robbins, W4PA, of Knoxville, Tennessee, has signed an agreement to purchase The Vibroplex Company, Inc. from present owner Felton “Mitch” Mitchell, W4OA, effective December 21, 2009. “Vibroplex represents the great tradition of CW operation in Amateur Radio going back many, many years,” Robbin told the ARRL.”I’m tickled to be able to continue the more than 100 years of history that has gone into this company.”

US Ambassador William A. Wilson, K6ARO (SK).

William A. “Bill” Wilson, K6ARO, the first US Ambassador to the Holy See (the Vatican), passed away from cancer on Saturday, December 5. He was 95. First appointed as presidential envoy to Rome in 1981 by President Reagan, Wilson was appointed the first full ambassador to the Holy See in 1984, once official relations were established, serving until 1986.

Broadcast Tips

Germany. Programs of “M.V. Baltic Radio” are aired from 10 to 11 hours on 6140 kHz on the first Sunday of the week, while on the third and fourth Sunday “European Music Radio” and “Radio Gloria International” take over respectively. Besides emissions to Asia and Africa, Radio Voice of Germany or Deutsche Welle broadcasts for Europe in English from 20 to 21 hours on 9690, 9735 and 13780 kHz.

India. All India Radio General Overseas Service in English at present has the following broadcasts: from 17.45 to19.45 hours on 6180, 7410, 9445, 11935, 15075 and 17600 kHz; from 20.45 to 22.30 hours on 6180, 7410, 9445, 11620 and 11715 kHz; from 22.45 to 00.45 hours on 6055, 7305, 9705 and 11645 kHz; from 10 to 11 hours on 7270, 13710, 15235, 15260, 17510, 17800 and 17895 kHz. from 13.30 to 15 hours on 9690, 11620 and 13710 kHz. The program “Faithful Yours – Listeners Mailbag” is on the air Monday . The QSL address is: All India Radio, English Service, External Division, P.O.Box 500, New Delhi 110 001, India.

Ethiopia. Radio Ethiopia Home Service broadcasts in English Monday through Friday from 12 to 13 hours on 5990, 7110 and 9704 kHz  and medium wave.

Also from Ethiopia, local Radio Fana is received in Sofia clear after 15 hours on 6890 kHz after Radio KNLS from Alaska has left this frewuency.

Turkey. A new station “Edet Radio” with broadcasts in Turkish & Kurdish was reported after 15.30 hours on 1062 kHz.

Serbia. On November 19 was the 85th anniversary of the first transmission in Belgrade of Radio Serbia.

Mongolia. A local program was heard in Sofia after 01 hour on4830 and 4895 kHz. It is registered as “Blue Sky” program of Mongolian Radio.

Sri Lanka. Radio SLBC was heard in Sofia at the beginning of its transmission in Hindi at 00.25 hours on 7190 kHz and in English at 01.10 hour on 9770 and 6004 kHz. The emission is registered from 01 to 04.30 hours, on Sunday for more hours, on6005, 9770 and 15745 kHz.

Czech Republic & Indonesia. Based in Prague Radio “Caucasus Echo” broadcasts Monday through Friday from 18 to 19 hours on 9525 and 9780 kHz. On 9525 kHz the reception is with a whistling sound asRadio Voice of Indonesia broadcasts on 9526 kHz. The station was received with a clean signal Saturday and Sunday until 18 hours in Arabic, at 18 hours in Spanish, at 18.30 hours in German, at 19 hours in French and at 20 hours in English. The station announces also an emission in English at 15 hours, however, is could not be received in Sofia.
