Fifth International Festival for Gifted Disabled People in Pomorie

The coastal town of Pomorie played host to the Fifth International Music Festival of Gifted Disabled People organized by the “Power for Life” foundation. The forum is held with support of the Agency for Disabled People with the Labour and Social Policy Ministry, the municipality of Pomorie and St. George National Centre for Social Rehabilitation in Pomorie. The festival is not a competition. Emilia Mineva, spokesperson for the “Power for Life” foundation, brings us details about the event.

“We are happy we managed to attract this year a great number of talented people, who have established themselves in the field of music and vocal art, as well as in dance art. The festival created an incredible ambience, because these people have undoubted talent. It is very pleasing that there are very many people who help us in the noble venture!”

One of the festival’s participants is Robert Abrashev, a performer from Pleven, who has serious problems with his eyesight, but that did not prevent him from attending the festival and presenting his talent at an impressive concert in the Polish city of Cracow.

“I am happy indeed I was one of the co-founders of the festival in Pomorie, which to me ranks among the most prestigious music events for gifted disabled people. The “Power for Life” foundation assisted my participation in the Sixth international festival in Poland, where I won the Grand Prix. Last year I attended the Ninth international arts festival in Cracow where I was awarded the first prize. There are very many gifted disabled people in Bulgaria, and I think it is high time they demonstrated their skills and talent! I just got home from an international tour supported by the United Nations in defence of the rights of disabled people, which was a very courageous act assisting disabled people to feel equal to everybody else.”

Here are the impressions of another participant in the festival, singer Ilona Kalcheva,

“The atmosphere is great! All the participants were very enthusiastic ever since we started preparing for the festival. I have performed two songs, a Bulgarian and an English one, and I am very glad I have been given the chance to be part of the event!”
