Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and his UK counterpart David Cameron have discussed at a meeting in London the bilateral relations between the two countries and vowed for boosting cooperation in the spheres of security and energy. The visit to London was the culmination of a series of efforts in the past months for broadening bilateral cooperation.

In the end of April Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov and his UK counterpart William Hague discussed EU reforms aimed at stimulating economic growth. Mladenov and Hague easily reached agreement on the topics, and the Daily Telegraph published an extensive article about the meeting.

Topics of the EU agenda were also discussed during the visit of Prime Minister Borissov to London. It was once again pointed out that Bulgaria and the UK share similar views in relation to the financial discipline in the bloc. Minister Borissov also thanked David Cameron for his support for the newly adopted Bulgarian law for acquisition of illegally acquired property, which received the support of the EC too.

During the visit of the Bulgarian PM to London, the good cooperation between the services of the two countries in combating organised crime, corruption, and trafficking was also pointed out. The possibility for Bulgarian police officers to pass training in British special services was discussed too. David Cameron voiced the UK readiness to continue supporting Bulgaria in the investigation of the terrorist attack on July 18th in Burgas, when 5 Israeli tourists and a Bulgarian were killed.

Borissov and Cameron discussed also opportunities for diversification of gas deliveries to Europe. A day before that Cameron discussed the same topic with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. Bulgaria was told that British Petroleum would work on the Nabucco West Project if it were economically effective. Bulgaria views the Nabucco project as a key for diversification of gas deliveries. Cameron and Borissov agreed to discuss Nabucco together with President Barroso during the next meeting of the European Council.
