Chamber Music: latest events

Author: Valya Bojilova

Producer Lilly Nikolova presents recordings from some of the most recent events in the field of Chamber Music in Bulgaria. The first of them relates to a concert that took place in Bulgaria Hall, Sofia and marked the 30 years on stage anniversary of renowned Bulgarian clarinet player Rosen Idealov. During the last few years he has been working with young pianist Maria Mircheva. Their style and repertoire, which includes music from various historical periods, puts them among the best Bulgarian chamber formations. The audience at the concert listened to works by Saint Sans, Weber, and Lutoslawski. Now listen to a romantic work that takes us to the aristocratic times of the French salons – Allegro Animato from Sonata for Clarinet and Piano opus 167 by Camille Saint Sans.

We present you a recording from the festival for American and Bulgarian music, “Ambul 2009.” Listen to a song entitled Ecstasy by Amy Beach (1876-1944). Performers are Susan Brownfield –soprano, Galina Koicheva – violin, and Daniela Dikova – piano.
From the same festival, we present you a fragment of the Stephania Kenessy’s work “Traveling Light” (1984).
The piece is performed by the Ardenza trio, who won the Crystal Lyre award for chamber music last season. The trio consists of Galina Koicheva – violin, Geoffrey Dean – cello, and Daniela Dikova (piano).

The following recording was done in Studio 1 of the Bulgarian National Radio. Listen to Prelude and Alemanda from Sonata seconda op.2 by Antonio Caldara. Performers are Yanko Marinov (cembalo), Yavor Genov (cittern), Zefira Valkova (violin), and Ivan Iliev (violin).

We bring finally a piece by Astor Piazzolla, recorded by the Music Ants string quartet. You will hear Spring in Buenos Aires, performed by Teodora Hristova (violin), Stoyan Bozhkov (cello), and Mladen Taskov – piano.
