The foreign ministers of Bulgaria, Poland and Sweden – Nikolay Mladenov, Radoslav Shikorski and Carl Bildt have met in Baghdad with the Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and Foreign minister Hoshyar Zebari. The meetings are part of EU’s efforts to prevent worsening of the Syrian conflict. Nikolay Mladenov said that it was impossible to devise a good plan for Syria without hearing the opinion of its neighboring countries and defined this visit as a proof of Iraq’s role in this crisis situation. In his opinion, the agreements for cooperation between EU and Iraq signed several weeks ago could be a good basis for offering technical assistance to Iraq. Mladenov also said many Bulgarian companies were interested in taking part in restoring Iraq’s infrastructure.
