The Bulgarian national men’s volleyball team has won two victories at home over the team of South Korean by 3:0 and 3:1 games in the fourth round of the World Volleyball League. The second game was especially contentious. In the third the Bulgarians underestimated their opponents while they won the fourth with much difficulty. Thanks to the efforts of Matey Kaziiski and his teammates Bulgaria succeeded in winning the match. In the same group A, Brazil won 3:1 and 3:2 against Holland as a guest. This way Bulgaria and Brazil topped group A each having 19 points.
The Bulgarian national women’s team continues its successful playing in this year’s European League. They lost 3:1 against Serbia in a guest match and won 3:2 in the return game.
Yet another news from the field of volleyball. The men’s volleyball champion of Bulgaria, the team of CSKA will play in the first group of Europe’s champion league next season alongside Russian champion Zenith, French team Cannes and German Unterhahing.

Tsvetana Pironkova continues her winning streak at Wimbledon Championships by qualifying for the round of 16 finals of one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world. The Bulgarian won 6:4, 2:0 against the 69th in the world ranking Regina Kulikova (Russia) who gave up in the second game. In the next round Pironkova will play against the 11th in the world ranking Marion Bartolli (France) in a knockout match for the quarter finals.
Grigor Dimitrov, 4th in the Bulgarian tennis ranking, has qualified for the second round of the qualifications for the tennis tournament Challenger in Braunschvige. 19-year old Dimitrov won 7:5, 6:0 over Argentinean Sebastian Prieto in 52 minutes. Next opponent of Dimitrov will be Gabriel Soler from Spain. Last week Dimitrov reached the semi-finals of another tennis tournament in Marburg, Germany.

Petar Stoychev ranked second in the competition for the Swimming Marathon World Cup held in the Portuguese town of Setubal. Three weeks before the world cup in the Canadian town of Roverbal (17-22 July) the Bulgarian hinted at his good shape. In a dramatic 10-km swimming, the Bulgarian finished only one tenth of a second behind Thomas Lurtz from Germany – two-time world champion.
