Best Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov reached the semifinals of the tournament, held in the town of Bastad, Sweden, but was defeated 3:6; 5:7 by No 5 in the world David Ferrer from Spain. The experienced Spaniard wouldn’t let Dimitrov to a historic final. The successful qualifying of the Bulgarian brought to him 90 points for the world rankings, where he is currently 61st.

The International Boxing Federation included European professional boxing champion Kubrat Pulev in the group of mandatory contenders for the title world heavy weight champion. Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko owns the trophy at the moment and all fans of boxing have long expected a match between Pulev and Klitschko. The other boxers included in the group are Polish Tomasz Adamek, Odlanier Solis from Cuba and Russian Alexander Ustinov. Kubrat Pulev will have to face Solis in his first match as a member of the contenders’ group.

The PFC CSKA defeated 2:0 the Macedonian football team of Drita in a final friendly match before the beginning of the new season. It was played in Sofia and the team of CSKA scored both goals in the beginning of the second half, in the 50th and the 52nd minute. CSKA will face as a guest the Slovenian team of Mura in a match from the second preliminary round of League Europe.

The football team of Ludogorets had another historical success, after becoming a champion of the Bulgarian championship in 2012. The Razgrad team won the Super Cup of Bulgaria after a 3:1 victory versus Locomotive Plovdiv. The match was played in Burgas.

Bulgaria’s male volleyball team will prepare in Belgium by July 20 before its departure for London. The Bulgarians will play friendly matches with the USA and Brazil, while on July 29 they will face Great Britain in an Olympic battle. Bulgaria kept its 9th position in the world rankings of the International Volleyball Federation after winning the 4th place in the World League in 2012. Brazil is still the leader and Russia comes second. Poland is third with a first winning of the World League title this summer.

Kaloyan Mahlyanov – Kotooshu suffered a surprising loss from Okinumi during the great summer sumo tournament in Nagoya. Currently the Bulgarian has 6 victories and two losses. Yokozuna Hakuho marked an 8th victory in a row in the contest after beating up Tochiozan. Now Hakuho shares the first place with Harumafuji.
