Multii-instrumentalist Amir Gwirtzman from Israel: an interview

Jazz is for dancing, some lovers of that music claim. Others are ready to object: It is for listening. In a bid to satisfy both types of audiences the 2012 Bansko International Jazz festival by tradition went across the whole spectrum of genres in jazz. This weekend we bring you interview with some of the musicians that appeared at the event.

Amir Gwirtzman began his solo project Inhale-Exhale in November 2009. This hugely creative musician performs solo on stage in the company of 25 woodwinds, horns, pipes, flutes and percussion instruments. Amir has drawn inspiration from a handful of cultures – USA, Europe, the Middle East etc. His music blends R&B, jazz, Gypsy, Armenian and Celtic intonations and rhythms. 

Amir is amongst the founders of the world famous band Ecta, which has partnered with celebrities including Suzanne Vega, Compai Segundo, the Chieftains, Sinead O’Connor, Stanley Jordan, Cheb Mami & Cheb Khaled. For the past 10 years Amir has beeb etaching master classes at universities in the USA, made a number of recordings with some of the best Israeli performers.
