The famous soprano Stefka Evstatieva dreamed of the opera stage while still a child. Her parents urged her to apply for the prestigious music school in the Danube City of Rousse. She enrolled to be trained in the double bass but her love for singing was stronger. Her vocal skills improved immensely, as Evstatieva was taught by renowned vocal pedagogues Elena Kiselova and Hristo Brambarov.
Brambarov trained her for the international Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow where she won the Second Prize. Stefka Evstatieva’s real great debut was back in 1972 cast as Amelia in Giuseppe Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera (A Masked Ball).

Shortly after the successful start of her career, Stefka Evstatieva joined the company of the Sofia Opera House. A few years later she was already acclaimed internationally and was signing on stage the Vienna Staatsoper, Arena di Verona and La Scala. In 1984 she appeared for a debut at the Metropolitan in New York. The Bulgarian diva has enjoyed a warm reception in Latin America where she has often got storms of applause and has many fans. She admits that the happiest days in her career were in Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

In the recent years Stefka Evstativea has been living in USA. It was there that back in 2004 she founded a Bulgarian children’s choir that later grew into the Gergana School. She works as a vocal pedagogue there.
