The 20th edition of Sofia International Film Festival opens on 10 March at the National Palace of Culture in the capital city. It is one of the foremost film festivals in Central and Eastern Europe. Its program includes 177 feature films and documentaries, as well as 30 short films. In the competition for a first or second feature film the International Jury will short-list nominations for the Sofia City of Film Grand Prix that includes a 7000 euro cash prize provided by Sofia Municipality. For the 13th time Bulgarian short films are going to run for the Jameson Award. It is targeted at young film-makers. According to the festival’s organizers the selection for the documentary competition is very good. Viewers will have the chance to watch a selection of Balkan films. In non-competition programs Sofia International Film Festival traditionally presents films from the section The Big Awards which have won prizes at the world’s leading film festivals. The audience will be able to enjoy works by masters of film-making, as well as by young hopefuls. The selection of Bulgarian films is impressive offering 60 titles. There are 250 foreign guests to the festival. Most of them come especially for the film project market Sofia Meetings. On it the projects for first, second and third feature films are screened to envoys of film archives, producers and distributors.
