Only 7% of all apples sold in the local market in 2015 were produced in Bulgaria and 93% of the apples were imported. 22% of all tomatoes, 33% of the meat and 44% of the milk sold last year in the Bulagrian market were produced in that country. Although grain production is a leading sector in Bulgaria’s agriculture, the Bulgarian citizens are consuming mainly bread made of frozen dough, scientists from the Economic Research Institute with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences announced in a recent analysis.
