A 10-km-long queue of TIR trucks has been blocking the Kapikule border checkpoint at the Turkish – Bulgarian border, the customs authorities of our southern neighbor report. The vehicles are spending their third day in a row on the Turkish side of the border, waiting to pass. The reason: the Bulgarian service operates with reduced personnel over the weekend and the work is lagging behind. The Turkish customs office has no such problems. Most of the drivers complain about being transit only, but still waiting. The danger of illegal migrants only adds to the situation, as those tend to sneak into the trucks and several drivers have already been arrested for alleged human trafficking.
