A double-track railway for high-speed trains from Istanbul to Edirne, Plovdiv and Sofia will be built “as a continuation of the Silk Road”, Edirne’s District Governor Günay Özdemir announced. Bulgaria itself has already started fulfilling a project for modernization of the Sofia-Svilengrad railway with own financing and money provided by EU funds. Some of the high-speed sections of this railway have been already built. The cargo which is currently transported with auto transport will be directed to the railway. This topic has already been discussed by ministers of the two countries, the Edirne District Governor Günay Özdemir specified.
