The 90th season of the Sofia Philharmonic is frequently referred to as “star-studded” – and deservedly so, knowing what names are on its programme – musicians of world renown from this country and abroad.

The latest in the string of concerts dedicated to the anniversary has turned into a landmark event before it has even taken place.

Tonight, 18 April, in Bulgaria hall soloist of the prestigious orchestra will be violinist Vesko Panteleev Eschkenazy, concertmaster of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam. The concert will be conducted by his brother Martin Panteleev, also a musician with an active world career.

The concert is dedicated to the man who founded the Sofia Philharmonic, conductor and violinist Sasha Popov. Any concert by the two brothers is invariably applauded by audiences in Bulgaria. This time Vesko and Martin are planning a musical greeting for their father Panteley Panteleev a musician in the Sofia Philharmonic for many years, whose birthday it is today.

The conductor will also perform as soloist in Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins.
The concert programme also features The Red Violin Chaconne by Corigliano, Sevdana by Georgi Zlatev Cherkin and the symphony suite Bay Ganyu by Veselin Stoyanov.
