Bulgarian authorities erase over 60 000 "virtual" animals from national registers

Veterinary authorities in Bulgaria have erased more than 60,000 farm animals from its information system. The measures are part of the inventarisation process, aimed at clearing the "virtual" animals for which unscrupulous farmers receive subsidies under national and European programs. About 11 000 cows currently registered should be over 20 years of age which is highly unlikely. The same is valid for 30 000 goats and 11 000 pigs that should have reached 15 years of age.
