On July 18 many Bulgarian towns honored with concerts, religious ceremonies and military rituals the birth anniversary of the Bulgarian national hero Vasil Levski (born in 1837). Levski is a founder of the Internal Revolutionary Organization whose task was to liberate the Bulgarian lands from the rule of the Ottoman Empire. Dozens of volunteers are to participate at the re-enactment of the last battle of the rebel detachment of voivodes Hadzhi Dimitar and Stefan Karadzha on the historical peak Buzludzha during the weekend. On July 7, 1868 this detachment entered Bulgaria from Romania to rise in revolt against the Ottoman rule.
