Bulgaria with one of the lowest levels of holiday travel and spending in EU

In 2017 Bulgarians travelled as tourists 2.5 times a year, one of the lowest levels in the EU, with only people in Belgium and Italy travelling less (2.4 times a year), Eurostat data show.

Almost 40 percent of Bulgarians have chosen to travel by car, the EU average being 60. European tourists spend an average of 382 euro per private visit, whereas Bulgarian tourists spend an average of 147 euro, as much as people in Hungary and Portugal and a little more than people in Latvia, the Czech Republic and Romania.
