The elections for mayors and municipal councilors in Sofia, Plovdiv and Varna attract highest public interest, as expected. 19 candidates are running for mayors in Bulgaria’s capital Sofia, 14 people are competing to become mayor in the city of Plovdiv and in Varna there are 11 candidates for mayors. Competition for regional mayors in the three biggest Bulgarian cities is also big. People in these cities vote for mayor of municipality, municipal councilors and regional mayor. A total of 341 candidates are competing to head the 24 regions in Sofia Municipality. In Plovdiv 29 political parties and coalitions registered for the local elections and 16 of them nominated candidates for regional mayors. 45 candidates are competing to head the five regions in Varna.
