More than 100 tonnes of chicken with salmonella from Poland has reached the Bulgarian market

At least 100 tonnes of chicken meat infected with salmonella have reached the Bulgarian market imported from Poland, the Bulgarian Food Agency has acknowledged. Some of the meat has already been seized and so far there have been no reports of consumers developing salmonellosis. Dr. Kremena Stoeva from the Food Agency told the Bulgarian National Radio that Bulgaria had already received 16 notifications regarding the salmonella-infected meat from Poland, as she did not specify when the first alert from the European Rapid Response System was received.

This is not the first case of this type. In 2016, in connection with the imposition of EU sanctions on Russia and the inability to sell its produce, Poland sent apples intended for fresh consumption at very cheap prices to Bulgaria which had, however, been stored for 11 months in fridges.
