Bulgarian cabinet allocates over 1 million euro to Bulgarian Zograf monastery on Mount Athos

The Bulgarian government has allocated € 1.2 million to Saint George the Zograf Monastery, also known as the Zograf Monastery, one of twenty Eastern Orthodox monasteries on Mount Athos in Greece. The funds are needed to complete the monastery renovation and for the reconstruction of the east wing which is uninhabited and in dire straits. The east wing was built 200 years ago. This was where Father Paisii Hilendarski (Saint Paisius of Hilendar) completed his Slavic-Bulgarian History, the first work of Bulgarian historiography from the National Revival Period.

In the meantime, the Municipal Council of the town of Kyustendil also decided to join the cause by granting 7,700 euros.
