Bulgaria strictly complies with the EU’s energy policies and priorities but must find a balance between them and its national interests because coal-fired power stations constitute baseload power of exceptional importance, said Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova in parliament.
Minister Petkova stated that 40 percent of Bulgaria’s electric power is guaranteed by coal-fired stations. In winter this percentage reaches 60.
That is why the government, and I as minister have always upheld the position in Brussels that Bulgaria supports the clean energy drive but that this transition must be gradual, fair and, above all, consistent with the national specifics of each member country, Minister Temenuzhka Petkova said.
