Bulgarians expect referendum on introduction of Euro as official currency

Half of the Bulgarians are against the introduction of the Euro as an official currency, 19% of them said this country should become part of the Eurozone and 31% of the Bulgarian nationals are undecided, a survey of Trend sociological agency shows. 54% of the respondents would like to participate in a referendum on the introduction of the Euro and the abolishment of the Bulgarian lev as national currency. At least half of the respondents said they will not support the introduction of the Euro in Bulgaria. Only 19% approve the course of the Bulgarian cabinet towardsERM II and the single currency. 20% of the people contend that a referendum on such a key historical decision is not necessary. According to experts, the results show that the Bulgarian citizens are afraid of the Greek scenario (when Greece joined the Eurozone its labor costs went up significantly, making its trade deficit increase) upon entering the Eurozone.
