Bulgaria is ready to increase its participation in NATO's training mission in Iraq, said Bulgaria's Defense Minister Krasimir Karakachanov, who is now in Brussels for a meeting of the military ministers of the countries from the pact. So far, Sofia had two officers who were evacuated, but they will return to Iraq. Karakachanov added that the Bulgarian cabinet decided to increase the Bulgarian officers in the Iraq-based NATO mission to four. Baghdad has demanded the return of the training mission, which was frozen after tensions between the United States and Iran.
Deputy Minister Atanas Zapryanov announced that the Talibans and the US have agreed that the NATO mission in Afghanistan should stay until the country gets stabilized and a breakthrough is made in the peaceful settlement of the conflict.
