The privatization for the most part was a criminal process, Bulgaria’s Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev said in an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio. A wide circle of Bulgarian citizens which are now interested to keep the status quo received assets and money from this criminal process. That is why they voice the thesis that privatization check has been done for the third time, that its validity has expired and that another check is pointless, Prosecutor General Geshev went on to say. The Prosecutor’s Office will do its job under the provisions of the current legislation, Ivan Geshev said and added that being part of the legislature, it is the obligation of the politicians to make amendments to the constitution to abolish the legal prescription related to the privatization process. In his words, this would allow the Prosecutor’s Office to make comprehensive and competent investigations. I am expecting the first portion of checks for nearly 100 state structures and enterprises, including Kremikovtsi, Bobov Dol and Balkan Bulgarian Airlines. These are the privatization deals with biggest assets. We will check the assets, not the value of the privatization deals, because Krermikovtsi company for instance was sold for 1 USD. In every Bulgarian city or town you can hear one and the same story about enterprises which employed a large number of residents and were later sold for 1 USD, although their assets and money kept in bank accounts were much more. You can hear one and the same story everywhere. We will also try to find out how the privatization process was controlled by the Prosecutor’s Office and the state authorities.I hope that by making an objective analysis of the whole privatization process, we will do our best to restore the sense of justice in the Bulgarian society, Bulgaria’s Prosecutor General Geshev said further.
