Covid-19 in Bulgaria: Day 155

Bulgaria ranks second in Covid-19 mortality in Europe

Bulgaria and the United Kingdom share the second place in coronavirus mortality in the last two weeks in Europe with 1.4/100,000, according to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). Romania is first with 2.4/100,000. In terms of morbidity this country ranks sixth with 41.3/100,000 after Luxembourg, Spain, Romania, Belgium and Malta.

134 people test positive for coronavirus

After 3612 PCR tests conducted in the past 24 hours in Bulgaria, 134 newly infected people were identified by, according to the data of the Unified Information Portal. This time the biggest number of positive samples is in Dobrich - 32, in Plovdiv - 21 and in Sofia - 17. Three people passed away and so far the number of victims of the disease has reached 445. 96 recovered in the past day and 848 patients remain in hospital. Out of them 55 are in intensive care units. Since the beginning of the epidemic, the number of tests performed has exceeded 300,000.

Different border crossing regimes for Bulgarians in Europe over Covid-19

Switzerland has lifted all restrictions on citizens arriving from Bulgaria, while Norway introduced a mandatory ten-day quarantine for them. Travelers from three Bulgarian regions - Varna, Blagoevgrad and Dobrich, can enter Germany only after a PCR test and will stay under quarantine until the result is received. Ukraine will allow Bulgarians on its territory after presenting of insurance and mandatory two-week self-isolation or a negative PCR test. Bulgarians traveling to the Czech Republic via Romania will have to cross Bulgaria’s northern neighbor for a maximum of 12 hours. Otherwise, they would need to be tested or remain in quarantine in the Czech Republic.

Minister of Tourism and German tour operators discuss measures for safe movement

Bulgarian Minister of Tourism Mariana Nikolova has met with representatives of German tour operators in Bulgaria, after the authorities in Germany issued travel warnings for the districts of Blagoevgrad, Dobrich and Varna. Measures for the safe movement of guests to their accommodation were discussed. German citizenstrust official data from institutions and there would be no positive result for the tourism sector if figures remined high, experts said. According to the data of the Unified Tourist Information System from the period June 1 to August 6 this year, German tourists who spent nights in Bulgaria are over 34 thousand people.

Gastroenterologists treating coronavirus patients in Dobrich

All patients with Covid-19 and lung diseases, accommodated in the district hospital in Dobrich, are treated by two young gastroenterologists, as not a single infectious disease specialist or pulmonologist works in the hospital. In the past 24 hours alone, 11 patients with coronavirus infection were admitted to the hospital. Out of the 47 new cases registered in the district, five are cases of infected medics.

Nine people with Covid-19 infection in facility for accommodation of foreigners

PCR tests of all foreign nationals admitted to the Specialized Home for Temporary Accommodation of Foreigners during the past 15 days are to be performed. The Migration Directorate takes measures to isolate, disinfect and limit the spread of the virus, it has been reported.

First resident of Ruse nursing home recovered from Covid-19

82-year-old woman has recovered after Covid-19 infection and discharged from hospital. She and other residents of the nursing home in Ruse, who will be relocated. Three more people are about to be discharged from the hospital - a man aged 82 and two women aged 77 and 84, as well as two of the members of the staff. So far, a total of 92 people from the home and nine staff members have been diagnosed with coronavirus. Five people passed away.
