The systematic violation of the law and the public interest by the Prosecutor General, in an effort to protect the government and certain oligarchs at all costs and to attack those who are inconvenient, undermines the rule of law in the country, said Bulgaria's President Rumen Radev.
The report of the European Commission is critical of Bulgaria but also it is also self-critical of the EU, because it is a recognition of a long-term failure in the fight against corruption, Rumen Radev said during the ceremony for the start of the academic year at the University of Veliko Tarnovo, BNR reported.
At the same time, in an open letter, 123 Bulgarian intellectuals demanded the immediate resignation of Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev, Parliament Speaker Tsveta Karayancheva, the chairman of the Parliamentary Culture Committee Vezhdi Rashidov and BNT Director General Emil Koshlukov.
