The Day of Hungarian Poetry has been celebrated in Hungary since 1964 on the birthday of prominent poet Attila József (1905-1937). Every year on April 11literary readings and book presentations take place in Hungary. This year Bulgaria joins the initiative with online reading of László Nagy’s poem “Who Will Carry Over Love?” László Nagy (1925-1978) was a poet, translator, graphic artist and winner of the Kossuth Prize, as well as winner of the Botev International Prize (1976).
Nagy is an honorary citizen of Smolyan (1976) and holder of the Order of Cyril and Methodius. Nagy translated over 10,000 verses from Bulgarian folk poetry and from Bulgarian poets. He is the author of 24 books. Four collections of poems have been published in Bulgarian. In 2019 in the László Nagy house-museum in Smolyan a permanent exhibition renewed with the joint efforts of Bulgaria and Hungary was officially opened.
