Russia and Bulgaria are in a period of diplomatic opposition

"In the last two years, relations between Russia and Bulgaria can be defined as a period of diplomatic opposition," Russian Ambassador to Bulgaria Eleonora Mitrofanova told bTV. She said her country accepted Bulgaria's choice to join the EU and NATO, but opposed "alliance group solidarity hindering pragmatic co-operation with the rest of the world, including Russia".

According to the ambassador, the persecution of Russian diplomats is done without evidence and began "after an American visit."
"We understand that Bulgaria is a small country, that it needs to develop, that the EU provides certain funds, but I do not think that relations with the Russian Federation should be sacrificed for that," concluded Eleonora Mitrofanova.
