The Gas Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria through which gas should be delivered from Azerbaijan, will not be ready by the middle of 2022, said the chairman of the Bulgarian Energy and Water Regulatory Commission, Ivan Ivanov.

"We agreed on the request received from the company ICGB for extension of the term for commissioning of the interconnector from Greece's Komotini to Bulgaria's Stara Zagora until June 30, 2022. This is the foreseeable period during which the interconnector Nea Mesimvria - Siderokastro - Kulata will have to be used for alternative deliveries. And they are absolutely necessary for Bulgaria, because they can have a positive impact on consumers regarding the price of natural gas".

The capacity for deliveries on the current interconnector is reserved only until September, Ivanov warned.
