Newest locomotive of BDZ named after two Bulgarian rulers

Photo: bdz.bg

BDZ's newest locomotive, which is the 11th of a delivery of 15 new Smartron locomotives, arrived a few days ago in Bulgaria and has already made several trips. It is the first to bear the name of two rulers - Kings Peter IV and Ivan Asen I of the Asen dynasty, founders of the Second Bulgarian State, BDZ has reported.

The new locomotives have a specific QR code. When scanning it with a mobile device, information about the ruler that the locomotive is named after can be found. Another interesting detail is that a letter from the Glagolitic alphabet is seen on the front side of each locomotive, which is a way to promote and preserve Bulgarian values and rich history. The remaining four locomotives of the order will be delivered by the end of the year. Locomotives of the same series are already running on the routes Sofia-Burgas-Sofia, Sofia-Varna-Sofia, Sofia-Svilengrad-Sofia and Sofia-Kulata-Sofia.
