Targeted breeding campaign for an endangered fish species – the brown trout

Photo: library

A 10-kilometre section of a river, a tributary of the River Iskar, has been planted with 10,000 trout fingerlings in this year’s edition of the initiative “Give the brown trout a chance”.

The brown trout is one of the most endangered fish species, that is why a leading world commercial company has set itself the task of increasing the trout population in Bulgaria’s rivers in the long-term, using its own resources. In the space of eight years the campaign has helped plant 390,000 fish, at the same time helping preserve biodiversity in more than 30 rivers in the country.
