In a bid to present Burgas as a European city where young people successfully implement their business ideas and have families, the city has applied for European Youth Capital 2025. The initiative was established in 2009 by the European Youth Forum and the only Bulgarian city that has received the title so far is Varna. The competition is an opportunity to promote Burgas internationally and to help the development of conference and cultural tourism in the city.

Gabriela Slavova, who returned to her homeland two years ago, is behind the idea of Burgas becoming the European Youth Capital. Together with the Children's Choir of the Bulgarian National Radio she traveled all over the world, later she studied in Japan, Thailand, the Netherlands and Germany, and today she is part of the team of the Municipality of Burgas. The young woman believes that this huge event would attract professionals and young people from all over the world and help improve the city's infrastructure.

The results of the contest will be known in November next year, BNR-Burgas informs. The development of an information portal is forthcoming and the active assistance of non-governmental organizations involved in youth activities, tourism, education and culture is welcome.
