The government will ask the president to dismiss Brigadier General Emil Tonev, Chief of the National Service for Protection (NSP), said Lena Borislavova, head of the Prime Minister's Office.

The grounds are that video recordings made at the entrance to the Council of Ministers were handed over to the prosecution without the knowledge of the prime minister.

"The building of the Council of Ministers is a contact point for the European Public Prosecutor's Office. Protected witnesses come here to give evidence and by handing over these recordings their rights and confidentiality are being compromised," Lena Borislavova explained.

Another reason for requesting the resignation is the suspicion of non-transparent spending of budget funds by the National Security Service.
