Muslims celebrate Eid al-Adha

The biggest Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha begins tonight and will last until July 13. It marks the end of the so-called Hajj, the pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca.

The holiday is associated with sacrifice, which is why the faithful offer Qurban. In doing so, they pay tribute to the Prophet Ibrahim, who was ready to sacrifice his son Ismail to prove his faith in Allah.

Tradition dictates that the young ask for forgiveness from the elderly and that the children are showered with gifts.
