Flood damages in Karlovo exceed EUR 36 million

Dozens of volunteers and military personnel are still involved in relief efforts in the flood-affected villages of Karlovo. Water is being pumped out of the houses, the bed of the Stryama river is being cleared, and Power Company teams are restoring the electricity grid, which should be connected by the end of the day. 
The worst hit by the floods are the villages of Bogdan and Slatina, where there is still no drinking water. The damages caused by the flooding in Karlovo region exceed EUR 36 million, mayor Emil Kabaivanov said. 
"Seven road bridges and 11 structures have collapsed and the beds of three small rivers have been completely destroyed. In addition, 340 houses are flooded, 6 are totally destroyed and 40 are very badly damaged and uninhabitable," he said.
