The Bulgarian Orthodox Church honors the memory of Holy Martyr Tryphon, who is one of the most famous healer saints.
"He was a very strong believer and God gave him the gift of miracles, so that he could heal people with his prayers," theologian Angel Karadakov says. The saint who lived in the middle of the 3rd century managed to heal the daughter of Emperor Gordian. He was later tortured and sentenced to death because he refused to offer sacrifices as required by the state cult at that time.
According to folk legends, Saint Tryphon is the protector of vineyards and the patron of winemakers and innkeepers. The vines are ritually pruned on this day.
