Bulgaria ranks second in the European Union in terms of the number of young people who are severely materially and socially deprived. According to Eurostat data, almost 19% of Bulgarians aged 15 to 29 are severely materially and socially deprived. Romania is first with 25.4%. In the EU, the severe material and social deprivation rate among young people was slightly above 6%. Greece comes third with 15%. On the other hand, the proportion was less than 3% in 12 EU members, including Slovenia, Austria, Luxembourg, Poland, and Sweden.
