Bulgaria's public debt for 2023 was 22.9% of GDP

In 2023, the government budget deficit was 2% of GDP or €1.9 billion. This is indicated by the final data of the National Statistical Institute. This is a significant narrowing of the budget deficit compared to the previous 3 years. In 2020 it stood at 3.8% of GDP, in 2021 it reached 3.9% of GDP and in 2022 it shrank to 2.9% of GDP.

Bulgaria's public debt in 2023 amounted to EUR 21.439 billion or 22.9% of the country's GDP, after shrinking to 22.5% of GDP in 2022, the National Statistical Institute reports.This is one of the lowest debt ratios among EU countries.
