Borissov: Zhelyazkov cabinet must stay on, even as minority government

"The 'Zhelyazkov' cabinet must continue to work, even as a minority government." This was GERB leader Boyko Borissov's comment on the Constitutional Court's decision to order the Central Election Commission to recalculate the results of the parliamentary elections.

"Whatever will happen, will happen. We had deep doubts about the results of the machine voting - if the same thing happened with the paper ballots, it will now become clear during the recount," Borissov said. He stressed that he and his colleagues from There Is Such a People (ITN), the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms would have to find a managerial solution.

Meanwhile, MPs walked out of Parliament for the second day in a row in protest at a Vazrazhdane statement calling for the Bulgarian lev to be preserved. In response to the call for a referendum on keeping the Bulgarian currency, Borissov showed the agreement between Bulgaria and the EU that commits the country to joining the eurozone.

After most deputies walked out, Vazrazhdane party members displayed a banner calling for GERB leader Borissov to be sent to prison.

"If I have to bear the responsibility for fulfilling Bulgaria's treaty, then I understand that I will be blamed. If I sent students to destroy buildings, I understand that I will be blamed. But to blame me for your misfortunes, for your failures, for things that do not work, seems a bit excessive," Borissov added.
