The plane with 148 people evacuated from Israel landed at Vasil Levski Airport in Sofia at 02:30. 89 of the people are Bulgarians and 41 are Romanians and citizens of Slovenia, the USA, Belgium, Albania and Kosovo. They were met by representatives of the diplomatic missions of their countries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
The evacuation was carried out on a specially chartered flight from Sharm El-Sheikh. Previously, the citizens were transported by land from Israel to Egypt, under enhanced security measures. There was also a backup option for evacuation through Jordan. The operation was coordinated with international partners and institutions.
Options for the evacuation of Bulgarians who are in Iran continue to be sought, but the situation is very complicated, Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev, who gave a press conference at the airport, said.
