Bulgarian services dismantle Spain-to-Turkey drug trafficking ring

An organised criminal group trafficking drugs from Spain and the Netherlands to Turkey has been dismantled by the State Agency for National Security (SANS) and the General Directorate for Combating Organised Crime (GDBOP). The leader of the group and five members were arrested, and authorities seized 90 kilograms of marijuana, Kremena Daneva of BNR Plovdiv reports.

The group had been operating for a year and a half. Investigations revealed that the Plovdiv-based leader mainly supplied cocaine and marijuana from Spain and the Netherlands, which were then transported to Bulgaria, stored, and later sent to Turkey. The leader, who manages a trading company and is involved in real estate and car sales, recruited international drivers to transport the drugs using specially designed hiding places.
