Bulgaria expresses solidarity with Poland after Russian drones invasion

The violation of the airspace of sovereign Poland leads to a dangerous escalation of tension between Russia and NATO, President Rumen Radev wrote on the social network "X". Such actions also undermine efforts to restore peace in Europe, which we need more urgently, the head of state added.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a position. It says that Bulgaria is united in full solidarity with our ally Poland, BTA reports.

The use of aircraft in the airspace of another country is a gross violation of international law. This was stated by Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov, who was heard before the deputies of the relevant parliamentary committee.

"This is not a direct attack on targets on the territory of Poland. If there was one, this would mean activation of Art. 5 and in reality the situation would have escalated to trigger collective defense. In this case, the assessment is that these drones are used to strike Ukrainian territories. This in no way allows the Russian side to violate airspace and fly into Ukrainian territory from the territory of other countries," commented Minister Zapryanov. According to him, Romania also has problems with Russian drones near the Danube Delta.

At least 21 drones have entered Polish airspace. All of them are with equipment from Russia and Belarus. This was stated at a briefing for journalists in Strasbourg by the Bulgarian MEP and member of the European Parliament's Security and Defense Committee, Andrey Novakov.
