Day of Sofia celebrated with a number of events

September 17 is the holiday of the city of Sofia and a day on which we honor the Holy Martyrs Faith, Hope, Love and their mother Sophia. The city got its name from the Basilica of St. Sophia located in the center of the capital city, which is among the oldest operating churches in Europe.

Sofia celebrates its holiday with many initiatives. At 11:30 a.m. in front of the Church of St. Sophia, a solemn ceremony of raising the flag of the city of Sofia will be held. At 7:00 p.m. on the square in front of the Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky, a festive concert will take place.

The exhibitions of the Regional History Museum - Sofia, the Sofia City Art Gallery and their branches can also be seen today with free admission.

Tours with a double-decker bus branded Discover Sofia will take place in the central part of the city. Access will be free as the staring and end point is Oborishte Street, stop of X43, near the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and the National Academy of Arts, with starting times: 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

There will be festive events in a number of other places across the city.
