Bulgaria's Ministers of Interior Daniel Mitov and Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Ivanov discussed the first procedures for repairing the damage caused by the heavy rainfall in recent days, the press center of the Interior Ministry announced.

In a letter, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Yura Vitanova announced the start of a procedure under the EU Solidarity Fund for the Southeast region of Bulgaria. The Interior Ministry and Ministry of Regional Development will prepare the documentation with which the country can apply for assistance under the fund.

The Solidarity Fund is the main EU instrument for assisting recovery from natural disasters. It enables the Union to provide effective support to a Member State (or candidate country) to help it cope with the consequences of a major natural disaster (flood, forest fire, earthquake, storm or drought).

Due to the ongoing heavy rainfall on the Southern Black Sea coast, Tsarevo municipality has declared October 7 a non-school day for schools and kindergartens. Meteorologists report that snowfall has begun in the higher parts of the Eastern Rhodopes.
