Young doctors from the “Future in Bulgaria” initiative are protesting again. They will gather in the afternoon in front of the Ministry of Health and from where they will march along Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd. to Orlov Most Square. The demonstration is expected to block part of the traffic in the center of Sofia.
“The reason we are protesting today is because the demands of the previous protests were not met. The institutions and authorities do not want to pay attention to us,” doctor Dr. Kalina Bozhilova told Nova TV.
The young doctors are demanding that their basic gross salary be 3.5 times the minimum for the country, and that nurses, rehabilitators and physician assistants receive 150% of the average salary for the country. They are also demanding that the legal changes for better conditions adopted at first reading in the summer be finally voted on so that they can be included in next year’s budget.
Medics are threatening to protest every week, as half a year after the start of their discontent there has been no response from the authorities. “We are tired of empty promises, procrastination and fictitious changes. We want real action immediately,” they say.
