A Bengal tiger cub has been born at Stara Zagora Zoo, the first in the facility’s history. The newborn is the first offspring of Karina and Belcho, a pair that has been together for eight years.
According to Nayden Ilinov, the zoo’s director, the successful birth is a major achievement, as Bengal tigers are critically endangered. The cub is being closely cared for by its mother and is reported to be in good health. Its first vaccination is scheduled for 25 December, when its sex will also be determined, and it is then expected to venture into the enclosure for the first time.
Stara Zagora Mayor Zhivko Todorov has invited local residents to suggest a name for the new arrival.
