The most precious Christmas gift in Stara Zagora already has a face. After 43 days kept in complete discretion, the first Bengal tiger cub ever born in Bulgaria was shown to the public for the first time. The birth of the cub came as a complete surprise even to the Stara Zagora zoo staff. The parents, Karina and Belcho, have been together for eight years and had not had offspring until now.
Cute arrival: Bengal tiger cub born at Stara Zagora Zoo
The zoo’s director, Dr. Nayden Ilinov, announced that after a careful examination it was established that the newborn is female. She is feeling very well, and the mother Karina is coping excellently with her care. The young animal already weighs 7.8 kg. The tiger cub does not yet have a name, and it is expected that naming her will become the first major event for the zoo after the New Year.
The Bengal tiger is listed in the Red Book as a critically endangered species.
The Stara Zagora zoo also revealed another piece of news – they are expecting offspring among the lions as well, and it is possible that a lion cub will be born in February next year.
