Social tension in the country is at its peak and ready to escalate into a nationwide wave of protests. This warning was issued by the president of Bulgaria's largest trade union, the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB), Plamen Dimitrov, on BNR. The unrest is expected to erupt at the end of January.

According to Dimitrov, the parliament acted irresponsibly by failing to adopt a new budget for 2026 and extending the 2025 budget. He emphasized that this affects the salaries of nearly 470,000 workers who are waiting for at least inflation-related compensation.

CITUB is demanding an additional €62 million for underfunded sectors.

“Analysts say that it will be difficult to form a government. The coming months, which are winter months, will be even harder. We repeatedly warned politicians not to do what they did,” the union leader commented.
