Authorities report that there is no contamination of the Danube after a Romanian barge carrying fertilizers sank near the town of Zimnicea, located opposite Bulgaria’s Svishtov.

Barge carrying chemical fertilizers sinks in the Danube near Romania's Zimnicea

According to a statement received by the Danube River Basin Directorate (DRBD) from Romanian authorities, water tests conducted at the site and at locations upstream and downstream showed that concentrations of key indicators remain within normal ranges, confirming that the incident has not affected water quality.

These results were also compared with DRBD monitoring data from the national network station near Svishtov.

The analysis showed that measured concentrations of relevant indicators were within normal ranges and comparable to baseline levels, confirming that the incident has not led to any deviation from environmental standards.
