The National Museum of History in Sofia will host a kukeri-inspired mask workshop this weekend, where participants will create masks using yarn instead of bells.

The workshops will be held in the Education Centre on 17 January at 14:30 and 18 January at 10:30, each lasting one hour.

Participants will learn about the Kukeri, exploring why their costumes are both scary and beautiful and the centuries-old tradition of Kukeri dances that drive away evil. They will also craft their own masks, experimenting with colours, shapes, and personality, offering a chance to spark creativity and dexterity for both children and adults, the museum said.

Each participant will leave with a unique, handmade mask.
